New Jersey State Home Inspector Regulations

Governing Body: Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors

Qualifications to Become a Licensed Home Inspector

Education
a) High School Graduate
b) Complete 180 hours of an approved course of study.  40 of the hours must be unpaid inspections in the presence of a New Jersey licensed home inspector of the school. 
c) Pass the National Home Inspectors Examination administered by the Examination Board of Professional Home Inspectors (EBPHI); www.homeinspectionexam.org

Correspondence courses are not approved for pre-licensing education, but can be used for continuing education. 

Or

Experience
a) Perform 250 inspections in the direct supervision of a licensed home inspector

Insurance
a) Must acquire E & O insurance in the amount of $500,000, per occurrence. The original certificate of insurance must be sent directly from the insurance provider
