Steve O’Donnell
Steve O’Donnell entered the home inspection field in 1994 starting as one of AHIT’s first students! He holds home inspection licenses in Arizona, Kentucky, and Florida. As a Certified Member of ASHI since 1995, he has performed over 4,000 residential inspections.
He joined AHIT as a Technical Trainer in 2005 after selling his successful home inspection business. Steve is known as one of the hosts for AHIT’s free “Becoming a Home Inspector” webinars.
He has also performed Energy Audits for the past 10 years in Phoenix. Steve is a BPI Certified Building Analyst and a licensed General Contractor in Arizona. He graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in Zoology/Chemistry. Using his science degree, he has provided environmental consulting services in Michigan and California, ultimately becoming a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH).
John Coleman
John Coleman is a 2001 graduate of the American Home Inspectors Training Institute (AHIT). His marketing success, gained by following the lessons taught by AHIT, has resulted in more than 2,000 home inspections. He started as a Field Trainer for AHIT in 2003 and committed to Technical Training full time in 2007.
John is also one of the hosts for AHIT’s free “Becoming a Home Inspector” webinars helping prospective students learn about this career choice.
John is an EPA / NRPP professional Radon Measurement Technician and an EPA professional Lead Paint Inspector. His experience includes past memberships in the National Association of Home Inspectors and the American Society of Home Inspectors. He was also named “Affiliate of the Year” in 2002 by the Longmont Association of Realtors.
John brings energy & enthusiasm to his classroom and is passionate about helping others obtain their home inspection career goals.
Jim Schumacher
Jim Schumacher graduated from American Home Inspectors Training (AHIT) in 1998 and is licensed in Illinois, Wisconsin and Texas. He holds additional certifications in: HVAC, Radon, EIFS, WDI, Lead, and Mold. Jim is the owner of Done Right Inspections, LLC. He built his successful business in the Peoria and Bloomington Illinois area.
Prior to his home inspection career, Jim was a Maintenance Supervisor for a public housing authority where he lived the phrase “Jack of all trades and master of none.”
Jim was named “Affiliate of the Year” in 2003 for the Peoria Association of Realtors. His passion is to help students change their lives and reach success in the industry. He is licensed to teach in several states. He is also a licensed Texas Professional Inspector.
Kyle Griffin
Kyle Griffin was introduced to the home inspection industry through his schooling at American Home Inspectors Training Institute (AHIT). He joined AHIT in 2015, as one of the national instructors for future home inspectors.
Kyle is the founder of Assurance Plus Home Inspections. He has over 20 years of experience in home inspection and maintenance. His experience in the industry includes everything from large industrial buildings, campus housing, to single family homes.
Kevin Mathers
Kevin Mathers is a licensed home inspector and Continuing Education Provider for Real Estate Agents in Illinois. He is the President of KGM Home Inspection, founded in 2012. Kevin has co-authored a book with other professionals called “RESULTS” – Real Estate Simplified Unlocking Lasting & Total Success.
After over 20 years in the corporate world, Kevin decided it was time to start making a life, instead of just making a living. He left Operations Management in the fitness industry and found himself managing for a roofing company, which led him into the Home Inspection business and becoming an entrepreneur.
There was no “plan B” when he started. This home inspection company was going to be his final retirement and would provide future employment for others who shared his vision.

This has become the mindset for Kevin Mathers, his “WHY” is to consistently add value to not only his customers, but anyone around him.
Kevin set his sights on the real estate arena and has never looked back. Like most startups, his office was the spare bedroom in his home and the passenger seat of his SUV. In 2017, Kevin moved into a 1700 sq.ft. office and training center and employ’s one full time inspector.
Certifications include: ACI – ASHI Certified Home Inspector, Inter-NACHI Certified Home Inspector, ITC – Thermal Imaging Level 1, NADRA – North American Deck and Railing Certified Inspector
Mike Williams
Mike Williams is the Founder of Y.P.C. Home Inspections of Amelia Island, Florida and has performed over 2,000 home inspections. He is a 1999 graduate of American Home Inspectors Training (AHIT).
Mike’s experience is not only shared in the classroom as a Technical Trainer for AHIT. It’s a family experience with his son Kyle (a 2004 AHIT graduate) who’s now taking the leading role in the family business. Mike holds a B.A. degree in Business from the University of Georgia. He was selected as a Paul Harris Fellow by his local Rotary Club.
Dave Lehman
Dave Lehman is an inspector in central Wisconsin. He graduated AHIT in 1999 and has been completing professional home inspections since 2000. His experience also includes various phases of carpentry.
Dave has been providing field training for AHIT students since 2002.
Outside of the inspection world, he enjoys golfing, biking, his yard and family.
Matthew Knight
Matthew Knight started “Almost Home” Inspections LLC in 2015 and has over 10 years of experience. He was trained through American Home Inspector Training Institute and has achieved the highest designation in the inspection industry as Certified Master inspector. He has also achieved other Inspector designations through ASHI, MAHI, and InterNACHI.
Home buying is a very exciting adventure and he takes pride in being able to educate his clients and aspiring inspectors about the home inspection process.
Michael Diehl
Mike Diehl is the owner of Seamless Inspection LLC and performs residential and commercial property inspections in Colorado. He loves being self-employed and doesn’t miss a minute of working for corporate America.
Mike attended college late in life while working at a steel mill. He was a non-traditional student at 28 years old and put himself through college. After earning an Associates of Applied Science in Design Engineering from the local College of Technology Mike landed a job designing and drafting part detail and installation drawings for a pneumatic manufacturing company. He earned a B.S. in Technology several years later attending night school at Kent State University.
A family move to Colorado sparked the entrepreneur in Mike where he began his home inspection business.
David Knox
David Knox started his home inspection business in 2014. As a business owner and home inspector in North Carolina, David and inspectors in his firm have performed various home inspections, from vintage homes to new construction and commercial properties. His detailed and systematic approach to inspections includes methods for consistent assessment of properties. He is proud to deliver reporting in a comprehensive manner that can be easily understood by clients and their agents.
David’s company offers options that include services such as well inspections, pool inspections, radon testing, and coordination with other licensed professionals to provide a coordinated approach to the home or commercial inspection process. His experience in working with licensed professionals in this multi-faceted approach can be of benefit to clients and real estate agents. His experience provides insights for students learning how to structure services, once licensed.
His experience before home inspection includes over 30 years of hands-on engineering from design concept to equipment implementation. He has performed construction oversight of a federally grant-funded public facility and then ventured toward the home inspection industry.
As an AHIT instructor, David is patient and informative, and always willing to work with students as they envision the scope of their business opportunities.
Joe Chitwood
Joe Chitwood is a licensed home inspector in Tennessee, Virginia, and Kentucky. Joe is a 2008 graduate of American Home Inspectors Training Institute (AHIT).
He is an active member of these associations: American Society of Home Inspectors (ASHI); International Association of Certified Home Inspectors (InterNACHI); and Home Inspectors of Tennessee Association (HITA). Joe’s attention to detail is attributed to a diverse background including his military career in the Engineers, over 40 years in construction, and degree in Criminal Justice.
Glen Thompson
Glen Thompson graduated from American Home Inspectors Training Institute (AHIT) in 2015 and is a licensed home inspector in Washington and Idaho. He is the owner of his own inspection company in Spokane, WA. He is a member of the International Association of Certified Home Inspectors (interNACHI) and an affiliate member of the Spokane Association of Realtors.
Glen is also professional in the use of Thermal Imaging, Sewer Scopes, and Radon Testing. Glen has a background in residential construction and repair. He uses his inspections with his clients as an opportunity to teach them about the home and not just point out deficiencies.
Joe Lyons
Joe Lyons has owned and operated business in Home Inspections, Commercial Inspections, General Contracting, environmental development and operations since 1994. He’s licensed in Pennsylvania and has multiple state and national certifications and licenses in environmental and building inspection.
Joe’s experience includes serving as the Executive Vice President of Environmental Solutions Association for 14 years, President of a national environmental franchise, Vice President of a national environmental consulting firm that specialized in catastrophic disaster assessments and remediation and is General Manager of ECAN.
He is an EPA approved trainer and QA manager for the EPA’s Renovation, Repair, and Painting Rule and the Dust Wipe Sampling Technician courses. Joe has also helped in the development of over twenty environmental courses which are recognized by twenty-seven state, national associations, and governing bodies.
Henry Sanders
Henry Sanders is a 2012 AHIT graduate and AHIT Instructor/Field trainer since 2021. He is the owner of Heartland Home Inspections with more than 2,000 inspections under his belt and serves Illinois. He has built a team of inspectors that are prepared, well trained, and certified to complete a variety of client’s home inspection needs.
He is an American Society of Home Inspectors (ASHI) Certified Inspector, mentor, and instructor with New Construction and phase construction/pre-drywall certification. Hank is a Northern Illinois Chapter (NIC) ASHI board member, Educational Director, Vendor relations coordinator.
His certifications include Certified Residential Thermography (CRT), EMSL and ASHI indoor air quality and Mold Testing. Licensure stretching beyond his home state includes: NY, WI and IN.
Having many great successes as an AHIT Trained Professional, he is eager to share his successes to the next generation of the home inspection industry. A strong background in framing/carpentry/construction and remodeling brings a variety of expertise to the classroom. His teaching philosophy is to instill professionalism and learning through the exchange of ideas, experience, and education. He strives to pass along the knowledge and practice of home inspection with preparation tips to build a successful business.
Fun fact, he is also the Radio guest host of AM 1340-WJOL’s “House Talk.”
Frank Pino
Frank Pino graduated from American Home Inspectors Training (AHIT) in 2010 and started his own business, On Target Home Inspections, LLC, in the State of Rhode Island. His genuine interest in helping clients, his attention to detail, clear communication skills, and relentless pursuit to improve his home inspection offerings all contributed to his business success. Those same skills led him to join the ranks of AHIT’s Instructional staff in 2020 and he has been helping students on their journey to becoming a successful home inspector.
Frank brings a unique blend of qualities to the classroom. He grew up in a family with multiple investment properties. From about 8 years old, he was taught carpentry, plumbing, and all things home-related. He holds both undergraduate and graduate degrees in Psychology. He enjoys travel and immersing himself in other cultures to learn what he can from people who have grown up in vastly different environments and conditions. His success as a home inspector has allowed him to travel to over 40 countries around the world! He shares his experiences, along with upbeat energy and a strong dose of humor in all his classes.
Daniel Baumgardner
Daniel Baumgardner is the founder and owner of Smart Check Home Inspections, a multi-inspector firm serving southeastern North Carolina. He is an example of the success veterans or others outside of the construction and contracting fields can have transitioning to the home inspection industry.
Daniel graduated from American Home Inspectors Training Institute (AHIT) after retiring from a 20-year career in the United States Marine Corps. While in the Corps, he was a master instructor and curriculum developer, with technical expertise on subjects ranging from marksmanship to troubleshooting an Abrams tank.
